Certified Police Officers
All Certified Applicants must be an APOSTC certified officer with ONE year of post graduation experience. Applicants must be in good standing with APSOTC. Final candidates will be required to pass an extensive background investigation. A physical ability test may be required.

Non-certified Police Officers
All Non-certified Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, possess the experience to understand the basic principles relevant to preform the major duties of a police officer, possess a valid driver’s license, and have the ability to obtain APOSTC certification set forth by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission. Final candidates will be required to pass an extensive background investigation. An applicant must satisfactorily complete the APOST Physical Agility/Ability Test prior to initially being hired and must maintain a passing grade prior to attending an Alabama Police Academy.
Components of the APOST Physical Agility Test:
Each applicant must successfully complete the following physical agility examination including all five events, within 90 seconds.
Pushing: Candidates must successfully push a standard size patrol car a distance of 15 ft.
Climbing: Candidates must successfully wall and surmount a 6 ft fence.
Window Entry: Candidates must successfully step through a 24in square designed to simulate a window.
Balance: Candidates must surmount a 15 ft beam without falling off.
Weight Drag: Candidates must lift, pull, or drag a dead weight object (dummy) approximately 165 pounds for a distance of 15 feet
Components of the APOST Physical Ability Test:
1.5 Mile Run: Candidates must complete the 1.5-mile run in a maximum time of 15 minutes and 28 seconds.
Sit-ups: Candidate must preform a minimum of 25 sit-ups within a 60-second period.
Push-ups: Candidate must preform a minimum of 22 push-ups within a 60-second period.
